Why are cooperatives important to you and to the Philadelphia area?
Cooperatives are important to me because they help to create a more just and economically sustainable society. By making the choice to obtain goods and services  through a cooperative, I am making a statement that I want to live in a world where businesses’ primary objective is to provide basic necessities to people and not to provide a profit to outside investors. Cooperatives are important to the Philadelphia area, because they will help to stimulate the local economy, provide jobs to residents, and build community. Studies show that for every dollar you spend at a food co-op, it generates $1.6 in the local economy, much higher than similarly situated businesses. By promoting economic alternatives that will inure to the benefit of a greater number of people, together we will make the world a better place for all of us.

Has experience in the following: Group process and decision-making; Meeting facilitation; Public speaking; Writing newsletter articles; Strategic planning; Project management; Nonprofit organization experience; Volunteer programs; Past or present participation on a board of directors; Legal issues

How will your experience, skills or unique perspectives strengthen the PACA Board? My experience as a lawyer, community organizer, and cooperative activist will help to strengthen the PACA board.  I have been involved with several significant aspects of PACA such as preparing organizational documents, membership development and policy initiatives which will help to build PACA in the future.

Where do you see PACA in 5 years? PACA will strengthen its position as the go to organization for cooperative development in the Philadelphia area.  It will serve as the backbone for a community of cooperative practitioners. PACA will educate the public, support public initiatives, coordinate research, and assist developing cooperatives.

As you think about the three primary board roles—ambassador, advocate, and asker—in which role(s) do you think you will want to be most active?  I see my primary role as an advocate for cooperatives. I will assist in efforts that will help to spread the word about cooperatives.
